Chala shivered as she sat down; the seat felt cold through her tunic. Immediately in front of her, embedded in the rock floor, was the Whirlstone. Her mouth felt dry on seeing it for the first and possibly only time in her life. She leant forward to have a closer look. It was an immense, circular, stone split into nine segments. The names of the three Guilds were carved into the outer rim: Keepers, Cultivators and Artisans. Each of these Guilds was made up of three trades or professions and the names of these were engraved in the nine segments.
