Stanley Bittersweet or Cider with Roses

Cider with Roses

I’ve added a new section to my blog with the poems I’ve posted so far.

Click here if you’d like to read the poems again.

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy ‘Stanley Bittersweet.’ Acknowledgements to Laurie Lee for ‘Cider with Rosie,’ one of my favourite authors when I was a teenager.

Stanley Bittersweet

sweet talked Cider Rose,

meeting and greeting her

through the brown

tinted glass bottle.

Cider Rose frothed

and sparkled to

Stanley’s foam,

wanting him to unscrew

her bottle top

whilst she ringpulled him into

a cocktail glass.

But Stanley’s strength failed,

being only 4.5%.

So Cider Rose asked

the strong armed publican

to undo her top.

And Stanley’s sweetness

turned bitter.

Thank you to everyone who has followed my blog over the last few weeks. I apologise if I haven’t thanked you personally. My first grand daughter is due to be born in Spain at any time.
